Table tennis balls are one of the few things every player burns through, so it pays to keep a stock on hand. Table tennis balls wear out fast: even careful players crack or scuff a few most seasons, and multi-ball training gets through them quicker still. Since 2014 the sport has used a 40+ poly ball rather than the older 38mm celluloid one, so every ball here meets that seamless, slightly larger standard. Table tennis balls, ping pong balls and 40+ balls are all the same product.

3-star match balls and training balls

A 3-star ball, like the Butterfly G40+ and R40+ or the Stiga Perform 40+, is graded for consistent roundness, bounce and hardness, the standard tournament and league play needs. Training balls, sold unrated in bulk packs, are made to a looser tolerance and cost less each, which suits multi-ball drills and club sessions, and is also what a table tennis robot gets through by the bagful. Buy 3-star for matches and training balls for repetition work.

An outdoor ball, and Stiga's recreational range

An indoor ball loses its flight outdoors, where wind and humidity push it around, so the Stiga Seasons 40+ is built to hold a truer line outside. For casual and family play there's the Stiga Winner in orange, easier to spot against most tables, and the easygoing Stiga Joy. We carry both Stiga and Butterfly across the range. Table tennis balls: common questions

It's the ITTF ball standard introduced in 2014: a seamless poly ball just over 40mm across, replacing the older 38mm celluloid ball. Every ball here is built to it.

A 3-star ball meets the tight roundness, bounce and hardness tolerances used in competition. Training balls are made to a looser standard, which is why they're cheaper and sold in bulk, and why most players save 3-star for matches.

Either works, the main thing is contrast against your table. White is the traditional choice, while a bright colour like the Stiga Winner's orange is easier to track outdoors or under strong lighting.

You can, but wind and moisture affect its flight more than an indoor ball is built for. A ball made for it, like the Stiga Seasons 40+, holds a straighter line.
